Representative Cases


John Simmons has practiced law in Scottsbluff since being admitted to the Bar in 1972. He is a member of the Scotts Bluff County, West Nebraska, Nebraska State and American Bar Associations. His fields of special interest are litigation and workers' compensation.

John was born in Scottsbluff. He attended the University of Nebraska, receiving his Bachelor of Arts in degree in 1969 with a major in history. He attended the University of Nebraska College of Law where he graduated fourth in a class of 129 and with distinction. He served as Student Articles Editor of the Nebraska Law Review from 1970 to 1972. He was also named to the Order of the Coif national legal honorary.

John has spoken in many seminars on topics including special proceedings and code enforcement. His published works include co-authoring a Workers' Compensation Handbook for the Nebraska Continuing Legal Education in 1996.

After law school, John returned to Scottsbluff to practice law with his father, Robert G. Simmons, Jr., with the firm of Wright, Simmons and Selzer. In 1986, that firm merged with the firm of Raymond, Olsen and Ediger.

John and his wife, Cricket, have two grown children, Whitney and Eric, and one grandson, Robby. His part-time activities include vocal music, travel, reading and history.  Community organizational involvement includes:  Valley Voices; Oregon Trail Community Foundation; First United Presbyterian Church; Friends of the Midwest Theater and the Panhandle Humane Society.
